A Biosafety Level-3 laboratory in Kozhikode is expected to become operational soon, enhancing diagnostic capabilities for high-consequence pathogens like the Nipah virus. The facility, part of a ₹8 crore project, will improve local detection but maintain existing protocols for confirmatory testing at Pune's NIV. The lab was delayed by COVID-19 lockdowns and was proposed after a 2018 Nipah outbreak.
