NHS approves breakthrough drug that can delay type 1 diabetes for years (opens original article in a new tab)

The NHS has approved teplizumab, a drug that delays type 1 diabetes onset by nearly three years for eligible patients.

• NICE approved teplizumab (Tzield) for NHS use to delay type 1 diabetes onset by 3 years.
• Treatment involves 14-day daily infusions and is for children aged 8+ and adults with early-stage type 1 diabetes.
• Approximately 1,100 people are expected to be eligible in the first year of approval.
