A survey found Los Angeles has one of the deadest downtowns globally, ranking low in vibrancy and attractiveness compared to other major cities.

• Los Angeles ranked 20th lowest globally and 11th lowest among U.S. cities for downtown vibrancy in Gensler's 2026 City Pulse report.
• 65% of respondents found downtown LA vibrant compared to over 80% for cities like New York, Chicago, and Boston.
• About 40% of office space and 30% of rental space in LA's financial district are vacant, with perceived crime issues contributing to business closures.
