Kenneally survivors to be offered formal State apology (opens original article in a new tab)

Survivors of convicted paedophile Bill Kenneally will receive a formal State apology after a Commission of Investigation found serious failures in the 1987-1988 investigation. Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan apologised for the inadequate investigation and admitted to dereliction of duty by senior gardaí. The Commission also criticised the failure of Kenneally's cousin to report the abuse and recommended establishing a criminal offence for misconduct in public office.
