2,600-year-old rare artifact of Assyrian king discovered in Iraq (opens original article in a new tab)

Archaeologists in Iraq discovered a 2,600-year-old Assyrian stele at Nineveh's Shamash Gate, featuring reliefs of King Ashurbanipal and cuneiform texts about his construction works. The artifact was found during efforts to repair the gate damaged during ISIS occupation. It will be conserved and possibly displayed in Mosul.
