A Montreal company plans to build a plant in Ontario to manufacture parts for small modular reactors, part of a supply chain deal with a nuclear energy firm.

• Montreal-based Velan Inc. plans to build a manufacturing facility in Durham Region to produce parts for small modular reactors (SMRs).
• The facility will manufacture reactor safety equipment, including integral isolation valves and containment isolation valves.
• Ontario's government and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) have partnered to deploy SMR components in Europe.
